1000 Books Before Kindergarten

May contain: baseball cap, cap, clothing, hat, book, publication, indoors, library, person, and reading

Reading to your kiddos is the best way to enhance literacy, promote reading, and encourage parent and child bonding. Ages 0-5 are critical years in child development and parents/caregivers are integral in providing the first source of education. This program is designed to encourage reading each day. 1000 books seems daunting but how often do your children let you stop at just one book? You can read literally any book to your child, multiple times even, and count it toward reading 1000 books before to them before they start kindergarten.

Get started today by downloading the Beanstack app. Once you create an account, you can find the “1000 Books Reading Challenge” and start logging books you read with your kiddo(s)! And yes, duplicate books count and you can even count books read by other family members, daycare providers, etc. Every 100 books earns a badge and at every 250 books completed, stop by the library to pick a prize! Special prizes at other levels as well as upon completion of the program!

Other tracking methods are available if you’d prefer not to use an app! For more information or questions, call the library and speak with Youth Services or email csmith@parkecountypl.lib.in.us
